Product Description
This iron from De'Longhi helps you complete all your ironing tasks without a wrinkle. One-year warranty. Model PRO300.

Amazon.com Review
Steam away creases in a badly crumpled shirt with the Compact Pro 300 Ironing System from Italian home appliance giant DeLonghi. The iron improves upon previous steam irons with its enhanced pressurized boiler, constructed to convert even harsh tap water into steam. With an adjustable thermostat and varying steam levels, the professional ironing system accommodates a wide variety of fabrics, ranging from delicate silks to cotton and linen. The well-designed iron handle adapts for left- and right-handed users alike.

The steam iron features a heavy-duty aluminum soleplate with a polished satin finish for snag-free, smooth ironing with even heat distribution. DeLonghi crafted the boiler in two materials to extend its steam conversion capacities, using stainless-steel construction in the upper portion and a super-alloy bottom. For greater thermal heat, the boiler tank is molded to enable the heating to rest within the bottom. The tank holds up to 1 liter of water for 2 hours of steam ironing. Users grip the ergonomically friendly cork handle to operate the iron. The ironing system also adjusts to steam vertically for curtains and hanging items. As with all electrical appliances, read the enclosed warnings and user guidelines for the steam iron before use. This item is covered by a limited three-year warranty and weighs 13 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

4 out of 5 stars Good Iron with some usability issues   August 30, 2010
feedback (minneapolis)
I decided to purchase this steam generator iron instead of a gravity feed iron for use in sewing and clothing maintenance. The rave reviews are understandable as are a few problematic issues with the design.

* The funnel appears as an afterthought. It would be helpful if the funnel actually fit well into the hole in the tank. Instead, when pouring water into the steam pressure reservoir, one hand is required to hold onto the small funnel which is problematic.

* As often said there is no 'water level' indicator so it is easy to overfill the reservoir. That said, it appears to hold approximately 4 cups of water.

* The handheld iron itself is not well-balanced when placed on end, vertically. Instead it is on the verge of tipping over with any motion of the ironing table itself. Thus, the only place to rest the iron is back on the silicone pads on the base unit. This makes for a longer distance between using the iron and putting it down for a moment to shift material around (such as when ironing a shirt). It would be helpful if there was another iron rest available for the unit that could be used on the ironing board itself. (The instruction manual says only to use the included iron rest on the base unit).

I am not sure how to solve this - is it actually dangerous to use another iron rest for this product because of its high-heat or damage to the ironing plate or is it just standard corporate boilerplate about proprietary products and not to endorse use of other similar products?

* The steam generator iron is used with the Rowenta Precision Ironing Board. It is a very nice large board, easy to set up and take down, though it has one of those extended 'iron rest' platforms on the end for resting a hot iron upon which is of no use with the DeLonghi Compact Pro 300. Instead, I use it to rest the base of the steam generator iron upon, though it remains wobbly there and will require attaching a grippy fabric (such as those new kitchen cabinet liners) on the ironing board to make sure the new ironing system does not fall off during ironing via movement of the board and iron.

For this reason it would be a nice added touch if the base unit had some small holes or areas which could be 'clipped' onto to attach the ironing system to the ironing board when the product is put to work. This may not be a solution for everyone yet I want to be certain the product is not going to be unstable while ironing and at this point that is not the case, partly due to the ironing board and partly due to the ironing system. It would indeed be glorious if all these things were made to work well together.

In summary, the overall experience with the product is good though there are potential issues involved when using this iron with ironing boards, including a limited ability to vertically rest the iron on the board, the apparent lack of another option for an ironing rest that could be placed on the board itself versus the base unit, and the absence of any way to stabilize the product itself when perched on the 'iron-rest' extensions of an ironing board - where an edge or loops could help secure the base to the board to prevent the product from falling off the board and breaking due to minor wobbling during ironing.

That said - the utility of being able to store away such a versatile and high-quality ironing system allows many of the benefits of a gravity fed ironing system without having a water tank permanently set up on the ceiling, for those without a dedicated sewing room. It appears to be a solid choice for as an iron to use when sewing, though I am just getting started so hopefully other reviews can provide additional info on this.

5 out of 5 stars Steam Iron   July 27, 2010

Love it. I am tired of sending my work shirts to the dry cleaners these days and getting them back crease-less even after asking for starch. So after reading several reviews here on Amazon i gamble on this no frills add water and waiting for it to heat up iron. Of course I set the iron up first, them gather everything I need to start ironing, like the pants, shirts, hangers. But THE BEST PART IS THAT IT NOW ONLY TAKES ME FIVE MINUTES TO PRESS A DRESS SHIRT AS OPPOSED TO THE 20-MINUTES IT USE TO TAKE ME. I HAVE RECOMMENDED THIS TO SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS ALREADY.
I ALSO USE THE FILTERED WATER OUT OF MY REFRIGERATOR.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't beat the Rowenta   July 25, 2010

The DeLonghi Steromeglio is a replacement for a Rowenta steam generating iron that lasted three years and two weeks. The DeLonghi takes much longer to create steam at heat up time and for some reason that I can't identify, doesn't seem to iron quite as quickly or smoothly. It certainly gets hot enough. Both are great for wet table linens, which I iron the old fashioned way.

4 out of 5 stars I love this iron   June 27, 2010

I love this iron. It almost makes ironing enjoyable! The water supply seems to last forever, and the steam function works better than on any other iron I have owned. I previously purchased a similar design by Rowenta, but returned it because it didn't live up to its description. The Delonghi is great. Not only does it work well, but it is so user friendly. The steam button is very comfortable to depress and is in just the right place for my hand - not true on a lot of other irons. Two things I will mention: I wish the boiler contained a site glass so it was possible to determine how much water is left in the reservoir. Also, the iron does take quite a while to heat up. I only use it for a large pile of ironing. For a quick touchup or one item, I keep my old regular iron handy. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who hates having to refill their iron every 10 minutes when tackling a big job. This is a keeper and a good value on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Great product!   June 25, 2010

I have been looking for a reliable iron to handle those stubborn linen shirts. My choice came down to this ironing system and a similar one by Rowenta. The price range was the same, but Rowenta doesn't seem to be as reliable as it used to be. I didn't want to take a risk and purchased DeLonghi iron that doesn't have so many complaints and negative reviews. I like the fact that this iron has a 3 year warranty. It's very well made and makes ironing a breeze. Timing wasn't an issue for me, I just wanted to finally make those shirts look decent. We haven't been using dry cleaners for a year to cut our expenses, and certain things were a pain to iron. This iron really does its job well. I think it's worth every penny.
